Help Croydon runner Beat The Sun with your votes
The race will see eight teams attempt to Beat the Sun in a relay race around Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps
KEMPTON Park resident Tumi Matlou has her heart set on outrunning the European sun – literally.
The runner from Croydon needs your votes to help her qualify to be a part of a team that will participate in the ASICS Beat The Sun race.
The race, taking place on June 21, will see eight teams attempt to Beat the Sun in a relay race around Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps.
What’s also pretty awesome about the race is the concept behind it: June 21 is the longest day in Europe, and the racers literally attempt to beat the sun before it sets, which takes 15 hours and 41 minutes.
ASICS has selected 50 amateur semi-finalists to have the chance to participate in the challenge. Through voting, the public selects the final 24 that will continue on to the live event.
“How it works is that every continent will have about two or three teams of runners representing it, and unfortunately Africa only has one team. The African team will consist of six runners – three professionals and three amateurs – onto which I am trying to get a spot,” the 25-year old explained.
Out of 10 000 people around the world, the PR officer was one of 50 people chosen, which will further be cut down to 24.
Matlou has already started with her social media campaign, and also check out a video she made for herself to promote her campaign. The video is on her Facebook page: Tumi Matlou.
People have until May 20 to vote. Visit https://races.asics.com/us/en-us/beatthesun/vote#vote-runners and go to the African region and vote Tumi Matlou.
