When nurtured, potential becomes a blossoming talent

The 23-year-old artist is also an enthusiastic writer

A talented young Kempton artist extends his gratitude to someone who has helped him with his art career.

Talent Ncube (23) says meeting property developer Paul Goncalves two years ago was the blessing he needed to cultivate his art career.

Ncube started painting at the tender age of six and has never looked back. He creates social and political art and uses his gift to bring to life the issues affecting society.

Through completing short courses at a private institution in Irene, Centurion, he was able to learn different art techniques and genres which he now incorporates into his work, which consists of a variety of media, including sketching, oil canvas and impasto.

Before meeting Goncalves, Ncube struggled to make ends meet and worked odd jobs to survive and couldn’t pursue his passion because of money.

In 2014 when Ncube met Goncalves while the businessman was conducting a survey at one of his buildings, the young man saw an opportunity to present to him a small portfolio of some of his pencil sketches.

“He asked if I have a studio to use and when I told him I didn’t, he generously offered me one of his flats to not only use as a studio but as my home too.”

Ncube says Goncalves has done more than just supported him with his art, but considers him a gift from God.

“I would like to thank God for Paul. He has been a father, a helper and an example of a leader to me and many people and has been making a big difference in the community of Kempton Park,” Ncube said.

Goncalves saw true potential in Ncube and gave him a chance to live his true calling and nurture his talents, so they aren’t wasted because of a lack of opportunities in life.

The 23-year-old’s talents are spread beyond just art; he is also an avid writer. He writes short poetry that relates to the themes of his paintings and, with every painting he creates, there is a short piece behind the canvas sheet.

“Besides my art I am also developing and nurturing my writing skills through research on different writing techniques and methods on how to become a better writer.”

Ncube dreams of continuing with his art education overseas, perhaps in the USA or London, as he believes this will open doors for him to meet with different kinds of artists around the world.

“I believe through Paul’s assistance I will be able to take my art worldwide and other nations will be able to see my gift. By achieving this, I hope to inspire the next generation of artists and art lovers around the world.”
