Puppy abandoned in box with food and blanket is found dead
Residents vent their anger on social media
RESIDENTS expressed their outrage on Facebook on May 11 after a Kempton resident had posted a shocking image of a dead puppy that was abandoned in a box and later died.
The resident found the dead puppy on Henning Street in Birchleigh inside a box with a blanket and food.
The post read: “I started crying after seeing this. This dog got dumped. He was a defenceless little puppy who was obviously still alive because there was dog food with him on the blanket. People like this sicken me! Like how do u do this! Whoever you are … you don’t deserve to just go to jail but you deserve to be tortured!”

Some of the comments on the post from very angry and upset community members were:
“I wish this country was covered by CCTV and the bastard that did that can be caught. This has devastated me. Do you think there is anything in the box that can be used to trace the disgraceful human being?”
“Such low class, uneducated, oxygen stealers. Why is it wrong to wish they will have done onto them as unto the puppy. I truly dislike them.”
One of the comments also stated that the puppy was there for weeks, which provoked even more comments.
“If that’s true, how could no one have seen it? Just shows there is only a handful of people who give a s***.”
“Instead of relying on the SPCA, why couldn’t someone have taken the responsibility of taking it in? Dammit man, it’s a sentient being!”
“That’s my sentiments exactly! People saw it for 2 weeks, phoned the newspaper and SPCA. Why not pick the pup up and take it to a place of safety. If the poor pup was placed in a box for 2 weeks, we had some icy weather lately. I would have gone and picked him up had I known about it! #upset”
Manager of Kempton park SPCA, Jan du Toit, confirmed on Monday morning they did not receive any calls about the puppy at all.
However, all dead animal removals must go through the Cleansing Department of Ekurhuleni Metro.
