Centre receives a welcome boost
"I am hoping to donate R10 000 every six months to the centre."
The Lebone Community Centre has received a R20 000 donation from LETTAM Building and Civils.
LETTAM Building and Civils has adopted Lebone since 2014.
Last Friday the company’s director, Ms Lijeng Mokoatle, handed over a R20 000 cheque to Ms Bongeka Manciya, the project manager of the Lebone Community Centre.
Ms Mokoatle said she has been looking for a centre that she can support.
“I am hoping to donate R10 000 every six months to the centre. I have heard that they are struggling with food and a proper shelter,” said Ms Mokoatle.
Ms Mokoatle said she heard about the centre from an employee.
“It is important for us as an organisation to give back to the community centres that continuously take care of vulnerable and orphaned children,” said Ms Mokoatle.
Ms Mokoatle is appealing to local business people or any individuals to donate to the Lebone Community Project.
“The centre was operating at a house and were forced to move out. They are struggling to get land where a proper shelter can be built for the children. We are also appealing to our local government to help with the land,” said Ms Mokoatle.
The Lebone Community Project is currently operating at the Global Harvest Church, which is based in Umthambeka.
It caters for 155 children.
The project manager of the Lebone Community Project, Ms Bongeka Manciya, said they are grateful to Ms Mokoatle, who came to their rescue.
“The money will help buy paint, school shoes and food parcels, among other items. We are still calling on the community to help donate anything that can help sustain us. We are not only serving children, we also feed old people in need,” said Ms Manciya.
