EMS paramedics revive man who had a heart attack
The patient regained a spontaneous pulse and was intubated and assisted with artificial ventilation
A 58-year-old man with a known history of diabetes and stroke, was successfully resuscitated in Spartan on Thursday after suffering a heart attack.
William Ntladi, spokesman for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services, said they received a collapse medical case call and swiftly dispatched an ambulance to 33 Forge Road Spartan.
“On arrival, the ambulance crew had to initiate basic cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an unconscious patient. They immediately called for Advance Life Support back up. Station Manager David van Zyl responded from Kempton Park Fire Station to the scene for intervention.

Ntladi said the clinically dead patient was placed on an electro cardiogram machine (ECG) to monitor his heart beat, which was in ventricular fibrillation (VF). Two defibrillation shocks were delivered to his chest while on the scene and the patient responded positively.
“He regained a spontaneous heart beat (pulse) and was intubated and assisted with artificial ventilation,” Ntladi said.
An intravenous line was set up and he was rapidly transported to hospital. He maintained stable vital signs and was breathing on his own in the ambulance. The patient was handed over to Tembisa Hospital in a stable condition.
