IN times where all are urged to save water, at least two residents have been battling for months now to have water leaks in their suburbs fixed.
Despite following the correct procedure when reporting it and getting their reference numbers, that was where it ended for both residents.
Angelique Hattingh complained on behalf of her grandmother who stays at Costa Tou on Geelhout Street in Birchleigh.
“This complex has a lot of old people staying here. My gran has been complaining for six months now to Ekurhuleni. No one has even come out to look at the water leaking outside the complex,” Hattingh said.
“It is so bad, the water smells and residents have to drive through this smelly water to get to their houses. The worst is that the water is leaking right next to a substation.”
On the other side of town, in Croydon, a resident reported a water leak on Graniet Avenue four months ago, also to no avail.
Anne-Marie Grossenbacher said the water is still running down the street.
“And this when we are talking about water shortages in this country. I find this a real disgrace. It just proves that no one actually cares about anything anymore. Very sad indeed,” she said.
Express approached the metro about both cases and is awaiting comment.
