Escaped prisoner killed in shoot-out with police

The search for the rest of the prisoners continues

One of the six awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from Boksburg Magistrate’s Court, died in a shoot-out with police today.

Acting on information received from members of the public, a task team consisting of detectives descended on the Wattville Hostel and found the pair just before 1pm, Boksburg Advertiser reported.

When they saw members of Ekurhuleni Central Police cluster approaching, the brazen suspects opened fire on the officers, prompting the men in blue to retaliate with fire, killing one of the suspects.

The second suspect was re-arrested and will soon appear in court to face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.

The search for the rest of the prisoners continues.
