THE metro has launched an investigation into the allegation that a motorist was refused his car licence disk unless he paid his outstanding e-toll fees.
“Drastic steps were taken to get to the root of the matter. However, the challenge in following that process was that there were no particulars of the client or the vehicle concerned,” Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, said.

“The metro wishes to apologise for the inconvenience caused to the client. Secondly, please note that the metro and its officials are not mandated or contracted to collect e-toll fees,” Gadebe pointed out.
“We will do everything to ensure that this matter is investigated properly to establish the real reasons why that licence disk was not issued to the client. However, please note that there are reasons or instances where the system is programmed to withhold a disk and some include:
1. Instances where there is another or other vehicles owing licence fees.
2. If the owner of the vehicle has outstanding traffic offences (infringements) for which a court order or a summons has been issued.
3. The vehicle whose licence is paid requires roadworthiness certification.
“These are just a few and e-tolling is not one of them. Therefore, we kindly request Kempton EXPRESS to assist with the identifying details of the complainant so this matter can be properly addressed and prevented in future.”
Kempton EXPRESS approached Gerald Roos, the man’s employer, for more details. According to Roos the man is not prepared to come forward.
