Gogo celebrates 50 years of marriage

Gogo Digasho got married when she was only 16years old but she is still going strong.

An elderly couple celebrated 50 years of marriage on May 15. Gogo Lydia Digasho (66) said she got married in 1966 to Mr Philip Digasho when she was only 16 years old and the now 80-year-old husband was the only boyfriend she had ever been with.

“I am not saying our marriage has never had its own challenges, we managed to solve them and our secret is respect for each other. He has been an ever-lasting friend to me. He is my first and last boyfriend,” said Gogo Digasho.

She said women these days must learn to be tolerant and persevere. “I remember at some point my mother kicked me out and encouraged me to go back to my marriage when my husband and I faced challenges.”

Gogo Digasho said she is grateful to her mother who saved her marriage when she taught her to be strong for her marriage and her house.

“I wish my children and grandchildren can learn from our union. To young married couples I want to say marriage is difficult, women must take care of their husbands because men are like our children and they need nurturing.”

Mr Digasho said he is very happy to get this far with his lovely wife and he wishes more years for their marriage.

“We are happy and appreciate the fact that our parents are still together at this age. We thank God for this blessing,” said daughter Linda Digasho.
