Ekurhuleni Metro has put in place cemetery manager software, a tool set to end grave booking irregularities and maladministration.
Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe said the software had improved booking methods, which provided easy access to historical burial information and had led to reduced duplication.
The system is said to also be regulating undertakers.

“To date, the system has been rolled out to 10 of the city’s cemeteries. The roll out will be completed by September 2017,” explained Gadebe.
He said some of the cemeteries using the cemetery manager software include Lala Ngoxolo Cemetery, Boksburg Cemetery, Vlakfontein Cemetery, Kromvlei Cemetery, Brakpan Cemetery, Primrose Cemetery, Zuurfontein Cemetery, Mooifontein Cemetery, Benoni Crematorium and Nigel Cemetery.
“The new system is a culmination of various meetings between the city and its stakeholders concerning cemetery management,” he explained.
