A Bredell resident and his friend were caught up in heavy automatic gunfire at an ATM bombing in Bredell last night.
A Standard Bank ATM was blown up at a shopping centre on Third Avenue at 11.30pm on Monday night.
According to Diane Lee Murray, her brother went to look what was going on after the initial blasts. On the scene the robbers opened fire with what is believed to be automatic guns.
She said her brother and friend hid underneath a truck while bullets were flying around them. Luckily they were not injured.
It is not known at this stage whether the attackers escaped with any cash. Both the police and CMS were on the scene.
This ATM bombing was apparently one of three in the past 12 hours. Two other occurred in Pretoria and Bronkhorstspruit respectively. A lookout for a white VW Golf as well as a blue one has been issued.
Express is waiting for comment from the police.
