Mother to represent Africa at overseas pageant
She will host a charity fundraiser in the form of a pageant on June 11 at Witdeep Primary School in Boksburg
A talented single mother of Glen Marais, Angie Bryant (37), is not only a part-time teacher in Benoni but is also a model, singer and dancer.
She will represent Africa in the Miss Universal International pageant in Reno, Nevada in July.
She won the Queen of the World pageant this year, a local pageant hosted for women across Africa and qualified to represent the continent at the Miss Universal pageant alongside 40 other finalists from across the world.
There will be two categories with a winner each – one with 20 married women and one with 20 single women. The ages range from 20-50.
Bryant has done nine pageants since September last year of which she won five, got first princess twice as well as second princess. She was named Model Manifest Overall Model of the Year in December.
“I believe we can change the world with one moment, one person and one act of kindness at a time and through my modelling I get to do that. I support charities that care for abandoned, abused and/or neglected babies and underprivileged young children. On my list at the moment is Door of Hope, Salem Baby Care Centre, Ethembeni Children’s Home and Isaiah 58.
“I also support and help my friends with their different charities whenever they need help but my heart belongs to the babies.”
She also released her first album, “This is Love”, on Valentine’s Day last year and has many awards for ballroom and Latin dancing from Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Kempton Park.
“Miss Universal will be my last pageant as I want to focus on my daughter, my charities and my students.”
She added that competing in this pageant will give her the ability to be a strong voice for disadvantaged babies and kids who can’t speak for themselves. Instead of speaking to a region or a country, she would be able to speak to the whole world through this pageant.
“I will have more attention from the media, which will make my voice carry much more weight and I would bring to the universal sisterhood my strong character, energy, pride in my work, dedication and perhaps even a bit more sparkle.”
She will be dressed by various designers to make her chances of winning even better.
“For my national costume I will be dressed by Sun Goddess, swimwear from Glam Avenue, interview and evening wear by Meagan Johnson and fitness wear by Michelle Herbst.”
Bryant will host a fundraiser for her overseas trip in the form of a pageant on June 11 at Witdeep Primary School in Boksburg.
“The Queen of Class 2016 pageant will start at 10am, with registration at 9am. There will be 10 different age categories and the entry fee is R150 plus three small age appropriate gifts.
“I will choose the top three winners from all 10 categories, two overall winners and best gift award for juniors and seniors. There will also be prizes for best dressed, crowd’s favourite, best ramp walker and photographer’s choice awards in each category. Spectators will pay R50 each.”

Bryant will leave for Reno on July 20 and return on August 2 after the crowning on July 29.
