Paramedics deliver premature twins at garage after bus broke down
The mother travelling from Malawi did not realise she was carrying twins
Both paramedics and a Malawian mother got a big surprise on Tuesday when two babies, instead on one, were delivered at a garage in Benoni.
Emer-G-Med paramedics were dispatched to the garage on Tom Jones Street after a call from CMS. A bus, travelling from Malawi, had broken down and a female passenger had gone into labour.
The mom-to-be was indeed in labour, Max Cohen of Emer-G-Med said.

“Paramedics assisted in the delivery of the 32-week, premature baby. Much to the mom’s disbelief, paramedics delivered a second baby. Mom was not aware that she was carrying twins!” Cohen said.
Paramedics joked that it would be funny if the mother named the first baby “Tom” and the second one “Jones”.
Once delivered, the mother and babies were stabilised and the three patients were transported to Tambo Memorial Hospital where they were handed over to maternity ward staff.
