Pipe ends not fitting leads to lengthy water outage

'The metro apologises for the inconvenience caused'

A scheduled water interruption turned into a nightmare for Cresslawn residents and Spartan industries last week.

Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesman, said the planned water cut on Tuesday last week was in order to repair a leaking pipe on Derrick Road in Spartan. Work was scheduled to take place from 9am to 1pm and was to affect Spartan and Cresslawn.

“When technicians were about to reconnect the pipe it was found that one end was 300mm and the other 370mm, therefore they could not finalise the repairs as planned.

“A special fitting was required to finish the job, which had to be ordered. The fitting was delivered around 1pm on Wednesday, May 25, and the supply was restored just before 5pm.

“The metro apologises for the inconvenience caused,” he said.
