NOT one municipal clinic in Kempton Park features on the national list of “ideal” clinics.
An ideal clinic grade means a facility is hygienic, opens on time and only closes when the last patient is attended to.
However, four of Ekurhuleni’s other clinics have been ranked in the top 10 countrywide. The city also has 36 clinics that have acquired an “ideal status”.
“This means Ekurhuleni is well on course to meet requirements by national government that all primary healthcare facilities should in the next three years acquire an ‘ideal’ clinic status,” Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, said.

The top four clinics are all in Tsakane.
The characteristics of an ideal clinic include that the facility has good infrastructure, satisfactory staff, adequate medicine and supplies and good administrative processes, Gadebe said.
Sufficient bulk supplies that use applicable clinical policies, protocols and guidelines to ensure the provision of quality health services to the community is also mandatory.
“This grading serves as an assurance that residents will enjoy quality of service as determined by a standardised national level,” according to Gadebe.
“The metro is working hard to ensure that all its health facilities achieve ideal status in the next three years as required by national government.”
Health centres that have acquired an “ideal” clinic status are situated in Tsakane (5), Etwatwa (1), Katlehong (4), KwaThema (2), Duduza (1), Benoni (3), Eden Park (1), Daveyton (1), Nigel (2), Tembisa (3), Bedfordview (1), Reiger Park (1), Alberton (2), Vosloorus (3), Primrose (1), Palm Ridge (1), Boksburg (2), Palmridge (1) and Phola Park (1).
