UPDATE: Injured pedestrian discovered at accident scene

He sustained deep lacerations to his arm and leg

CPF patrollers discovered an injured pedestrian at an accident scene on CR Swart Drive in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The accident, involving three vehicles, happened shortly after midnight. The injured man was only found as patrollers were about to leave the scene at the intersection of CR Swart Parkland drives (Rienert Avenue) in Edleen.

According to Anuska Engelbrecht, CPF sector 3 chairperson, reacted to Express’ initial article posted earlier this morning. She said the taxi involved also did not skip a red light.

According to her Terenure/Kempton West patrollers heard the impact of the accident while patrolling in Terenure/Kempton West shortly after midnight. They immediately went out to search surrounding streets and found the accident scene.

“An ambulance driving past stopped to assist with about 11 patients. More ambulances and two fire trucks were also dispatched to the scene,” Engelbrecht said.

The majority of the patients, who had minor injuries, were all transported to Tembisa Hospital. There were three patients with more serious injuries who were transported to various other hospitals.

“As the scene of the accident were cleared at around 1.36am and patrollers were getting ready to stand down, a patroller discovered another injured person who was a pedestrian at the time of the accident. He was hit by one of the three vehicles that was involved in the accident,” Engelbrecht said.

“As the scene was very busy with medics everywhere, no one saw this person and he did not request for any help either. The Terenure/Kempton West control room 2 was contacted again to dispatch an ambulance as the patient had deep lacerations on his leg and arm. Patrollers stayed on the scene until the ambulance arrived and the patient had been transported to Tembisa Hospital.

The scene was only called in as cleared about an hour later.
