#MakingIt – Pair fights back against roach infestation
“However crazy the cockroaches are in your house, we have the answer for you.”
Two local men are hell-bent on fighting the roaches that are infesting many Tembisa households.
Mr Abraham Ncube and Mr Abel Dube put their heads together to establish a business called Ezasemahlanyeni Pest Control.
The pair came up with the idea after facing a roach problem in the rooms they were renting.
“It was a serious problem. Many products sold from the formal shops and by the vendors were not effective,” said Mr Dube.
Mr Dube said they started to do research on chemicals that would deliver immediate results.
They managed to discover a potent product already available on the market. They tried it out on the roaches in their own houses.
“It worked immediately for me and that is when we decided to set up Ezasemahlanyeni Pest Control,” said Abraham Ncube.
“However crazy the cockroaches are in your house, we have the answer for you.”
The pair said their business is rare in the township and yet persistent pests like roaches are prevalent in many houses.
“Our slogan is – Kill them before they invade your house,” said Mr Dube.
Ezasemahlanyeni Pest Control is not yet formally registered as a business. The business partners and colleagues walk the streets of Tembisa looking for customers.
“We are looking forward to formalising the business and creating employment for local people,” said Mr Dube.
At the moment their marketing is via word of mouth.
Asked what the challenges of the business are, Mr Ncube said it was difficult at first to get people to trust the effectiveness of their product because customers were failed by the chemicals they had used before.
“We started teaching our customer about our product.
“Our products are user-friendly and don’t pose any threat to human health,” said Mr Dube.
He said the products don’t have a strong smell that requires inhabitants to evacuate the building when sprayed.
The products are said to work right in front of your eyes.
“The product can be used in a hospital ward while the patient lies there.
“It is herbal based and is 100 percent safe,” said Mr Ncube.
“I never work formally. I operate in the informal sector,” he said.
He said jobs are limited and they require special qualifications and long-term experience.
“A man must wake up and hustle to make a living,” he said.
Mr Dube said he always had a passion for business.
“I always try new and various business ideas,” said Mr Dube.
