Local Miss Earth finalist helps the community be cleaner

She is one of 12 semi finalists competing for the crown across the country

MISS Earth SA semi-finalist and local resident of Kempton park, Asanda Mngadi (28) ran a cleaning and educational campaign where she picked up litter on June 11 at the Civic Centre park.

“The Waste Stops With Me campaign is to raise awareness of the importance of waste management, recycling, pollution and environmental care which in turn saves our environment and our earth,” said Asanda.

DA ward councillor, Clr Joey Roos as well as Ekuhuleni metro employees and friends all participated in the clean-up and they picked up more than 20 bags of trash.

“We were all united for one purpose to clean up our city and advocate for change.”

Miss Earth South Africa executive director, Catherine Constantinides, said the aim of the programme is to empower women and provide a platform to create environmental and social awareness about the challenges women have to go through and ways to solve those challenges.

This is only one of Asanda’s many campaigns to help her win Miss Earth and she is one of 12 semi- finalists competing for the crown across the country.
