On Sunday, June 12, Praise Mountain Bible Church donated 100 blankets to the community’s elderly residents.
Simon Ntshayintshayi, the spokesperson for the church, said the church wanted the old people to be warm this winter.
“Pastor Isaac Pule Mathabatha had a vision to donate 100 blankets. He challenged his congregation. Church members honoured their pledge to support the initiative,” said Mr Ntshayintshayi.
The church managed to obtain the 100 blankets, which were distributed by delegated church members.
Mr Ntshayintshayi said the delegates went from house to house in order to assess the situations of neighbouring families.
He said two of the families were found to be in dire need of help and the the church adopted the two families.
“They are going to be provided for by the church, until their situation changes and once one of the family members finds employment,” said Mr Ntshayintshayi.
He said the situation was so bad the church had to renovate one of the houses.
“It is not the first time the church has lent a helping hand,” said Mr Ntshayintshayi.
“We are embarking on a drive to eradicate poverty in our neighbouring communities.”
“We want to thank our pastor for giving us the opportunity to help the community where we can,” he said.
“We hope to make this an annual event.”
