Youth get career tips for Youth Month

Child Welfare visited the informal settlement to encourage the youth to finish school and kick-start their careers

THE youth in Kaalfontein received useful tips on how to stand up and make things happen for themselves in terms of their education and careers.

Dressed in their old school uniforms, officials from Child Welfare Kempton Park and the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) visited the informal settlement as part of their Youth Month campaign.

The officials encouraged the youth, as well as the Kaalfontein community, to finish school and kick-start their careers. And for some adults, to work towards obtaining their matric certificates so they could finally find employment, or get the job they’ve always wanted.

The youth as well as other residents also had a chance to voice their concerns and needs within the community. Various issues were raised, including needing a day-care facility where working families can leave their children during the day, as well as the need for an adult education and training centre that will be based at the settlement.

Two representatives from the development agency imparted information to the people on how they could start their own small businesses through obtaining funds from the NYDA.

They also advised the young people, some still high school learners and others older, on how they can apply for bursaries through the agency.

After the presentation, the community members could write down their names on a list so the NYDA could help them with their different aspirations.
