Pedestrian airlifted from accident on Barbara Road

The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was left critically injured late yesterday evening when he was knocked over by a car at the Barbara and Diesel roads intersection in Isando.

Russel Meiring of ER24 said paramedics arrived on the scene shortly before 8pm and found a man lying in the middle of the road. It is understood he had been walking across the road on his way home when he was hit by the vehicle.

On assessment, paramedics found the man had sustained serious injuries to his head and back, leaving him in a critical condition. Paramedics began their treatment and initiated advanced life support intervention. Once treated, the patient was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital for urgent treatment.

The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
