Residents voice their concerns

Members of the community were given a chance to raise their concerns.

Residents voiced their concerns to the office of the City of Joburg (CoJ) Mayor, led by Members of the Mayoral Committee, in a service delivery meeting.

The meeting was organised by the leadership of the ANC of the Greater Midrand Zone 15 and was held at the Rabie Ridge Community Hall on Monday, June 6.

The meeting was part of an interaction between the community and its government.

In attendance were the MMC for Public Safety in the City of Johannesburg, Clr Sello Lemao, the MMC for Economic Development, Clr Ruby Mathang; the MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Service, Clr Matshediso Mfeko, the MMC for Health and Social Development, Clr Nonceba Moleele, local councillors and Regional Director of Region A, Mrs Abigail Ndlovu.

Members of the community were given a chance to raise their concerns.

A youngster stood up and asked the panel, “Where is the mayor? We want the mayor, Clr Parks Tau to come and address us. How do you expect us to vote when our concerns are not taken seriously?”

MMC Mfeko said the MMCs have responsibilities and powers invested on them to listen to residents’ concerns and to act on these concerns.

Another concerned resident said, “We were not informed or involved when the issue of the demarcation process was done in our area.”

MMC Mfeko said, “By now the budget is already being done. Yes it is true that the community was supposed to have been involved and informed when this process was done.”

One resident asked, “When are Rabie Ridge residents are going to be issued with their title deeds?”

MMC Mathang said there are about 1 600 title deeds that were to be issued. MMC Mathang did not say when these will be issued.

Residents were told that Clr Tau will do the sod-turning at the land next to Rabie Ridge, which is earmarked for housing development.
