‘We HATIN the fact that we cannot get to all those in need’
Concerned residents start feeding scheme but needs help

RESIDENTS from across Kempton Park have taken the initiative to start a feeding scheme, called Helping All Those In Need (HATIN), for the homeless.
Their mission is to provide warm meals to those who need them most and currently they use their own resources and funding.
“We are not a registered non-profit organisation but simply a bunch of people who want to make a difference,” said member Cathy Nolan.
HATIN was started by Jacques van Vuuren, who hated the fact that there were so many poverty-stricken people out there.
“We HATIN the fact that we cannot get to all those in need. We HATIN that the future of our country looks so bleak. We HATIN that the old and young people of this country are forgotten,” says Van Vuuren.
“We want to change lives, no matter how big or small a change, whether it’s a meal, clothing, a blanket, even a hug, a handshake or a chat means a lot more to those lonely folk out there than you think.”
HATIN urges the community to reach out and make donations such as soup ingredients, tinned food, bread and milk, time to help cook, shop or actually hand out the food at their drop-off points. The group’s members are prepared to collect donations if necessary.
They have also opened a dedicated bank account and will ensure transparency by posting records of donations on their Facebook page, HATIN (Helping All Those In Need).
