Miss Glamorous lends a helping hand
Miss glamorous 2016 clothe needy children this winter.
Tembisa Miss Glamorous is reaching out to ease the plight of needy children.
Ayanda Tamia Maphanga calls out to interested parties to assist in making a drive called #WarmAChild possible.
“We want to collect enough warm clothes which we will distribute to deserving children. The purpose of the initiative is to keep children warm this winter season.
“We appeal to generous individuals to assist in helping the less fortunate,” said Ayanda.
Ayanda initiated the drive as part of her community involvement during her reign.
Ayanda won the title on June 4 at Rabasotho Hall.
“It was overwhelming to be crowned queen of the pageant,” said Ayanda.
The 17-year-old is not a new face in the world of beauty pageants.
In 2014 she was crowned first princess in the Miss Teen Tembisa pageant.
Earlier this year the Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School learner won a prestigious award for modelling at a South African Championships of performing arts and qualified to join Team SA.
Ayanda said she and other 17 qualifiers were supposed to participate through Team SA in a World Championships of Performing Arts hosted in London but were all unable to raise the funds required to make the trip.
Despite the setback Ayanda is eager to do her part in alleviating poverty in her surrounding communities.
“In a quest to leave a legacy of generosity I hope to make a difference in people’s lives and serve the community with dignity by assisting the needy on a wider scale,” she said.
Her reign will last for 12 months and during that time she will be a regular face at charity events.
“Beauty pageants have given the youth a platform to acknowledge our beauty and showcase skills in front of the whole world. It is an opportunity to seek the better in you and be a role model,” she said.
She said her main concern is drug abuse and pregnancy amongst the youth.
“As a community we need to fight the root cause. I hope to help the youth to discover their talents and keep them away from drugs. This will help them to identify their strengths and weaknesses,” said Ayanda.
