Machaya lost her mother while shopping
The Tembisa Child Family and Welfare Centre, Social Worker Angie Marakalala, said the child was brought to the centre by the Norkem Park SAPS in the morning of Monday.
It is again that time of the year when school closes and children visit their family, friends and relatives.
During this time, many schoolchildren go missing as they are not familiar with the places they visit.
It happened in Tembisa on Sunday that Sibongile Machaya (10) lost her mother Lebohang Machaya at Birch Acres while shopping.
Machaya said she only came to Tembisa over the weekend for a visit to her grandmother, Mathapelo Machaya.
“I do not know the name of the section we visited with my mom,” said Machaya.
The young Machaya added her mother was holding her hand. “For a second, she looked away and eventually we lost each other at the shopping complex,” she said.
“I tried searching for her in all of the shops but she was nowhere to be found. I then approached a security officer who then informed the police officers,” added Machaya.
The Tembisa Child Family and Welfare Centre’s social worker, Ms Angie Marakalala, said the child was brought to the centre by the Norkem Park SAPS on Monday morning.
“We are appealing for her parents or family members to come to the Tembisa Child Welfare,” added Ms Marakalala. Machaya said she used to reside with her father Daniel in Lesotho last year. She only moved to the Eastern Cape this year. She is doing grade 4.
