Regional pipe band champs at St Benedict’s College

The festive atmosphere throughout the day is ideal for the entire family

ST Benedict’s College in Bedfordview will host the final of the regional pipe band championships at their Highland Gathering on July 16.

Every year, pipe bands from across South Africa compete in different grades over four months. As the season draws to a close, all the bands put everything into the last two competitions of the year: the regional finals at St Benedict’s College and the South African Championships and PBASA Championship Final at Benoni High School on July 30.

The festive atmosphere throughout the day is ideal for the entire family and comprises pipe bands, Highland dancers and a craft market; culminating in massed bands where all the competing bands play the public’s favourite tunes like Amazing Grace and Flower of Scotland.

This year, the St Benedict’s College pipe band will be travelling to Glasgow, Scotland to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships where over 200 bands compete for the ultimate prize in the land of bagpipes.
