Clinics have enough stock of infant vaccine

Health facilities in Ekurhuleni are supplied with medication, including vaccines, by the Gauteng Department of Health

MUNICIPAL clinics have received enough new stock of the infant vaccine, Hexaxim.

“The Nigel Pre-Pack Unit received Hexaxim Vaccine on June 20 and there is enough stock for the primary health care facilities to place emergency orders if they run out of stock,” Themba Gadebe, municipal spokesman, said.

The DA’s mayoral candidate, Ghaleb Cachalia, on June 29 issued a statement that clinics in Tembisa, Nigel and Bonaero Park ran out of this vaccine.

Gadebe said: “Hexavalent Vaccine was introduced in 2015, replacing the Pentavalent Vaccine. The only difference is that it is the six-in-one fully liquid vaccine. It gives protection from diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (a cellular component), hepatitis B (rDNA), poliomyelitis (inactivated) and Haemophilus influenza type B conjugated vaccine (absorbed).

“Health facilities in Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality are supplied with medication, including vaccines, by the Gauteng Department of Health’s Nigel Pre-Pack Unit,” Gadebe said.
