Tembisa schools get over R200 000 worth of compujectors

Compujectors are part computer, part projector and part smart interactive whiteboard

CLASSROOM lessons for learners at five primary schools in Tembisa and one in Actonville will soon become more techno-savvy.

This, after the MTN Foundation donated R228 000 worth of compujectors: machines that are part computer, part projector and part smart interactive whiteboard.

The donation was the result of a request sent to MTN by director and founder of OMI (Original Mathematics Initiative) Kahlil Muhammad, highlighting the need for sponsorship.

Muhammad is an Olifantsfontein resident and a former maths teacher who is now giving free mathematical tuition to various schools in Tembisa.

“These compujectors are built in Bedfordview by a South African company and then purchased by MTN for installation at various schools. As a rule, MTN sponsors schools in rural areas, but they made an exception for us,” Muhammad said.

“These compujectors are mobile smartboards and Internet compatible, with 500 gigs of memory. They have books, topics and presentations on every subject taught in the syllabus, plus the entire Microsoft package. Skype is also installed and they have two cameras.”

The handover was done on June 1 by Angie Maloka, senior manager of Education and Communication Programmes for MTN SA Foundation, together with her team.

Officials from the Gauteng Department of Education in the Benoni district were present, as well as principals and representatives of the schools.

Schalk Coetzee, of Lesedi Corporate, will, on July 29, provide the schools with training on how to use these compujectors.
