Soup and bread outreach on Saturday
The event will take place on Great North in Pomona from 9am and there are still items needed
NON-profit organisation Under His Covering is calling on local businesses to come forward and be a part of their upcoming soup and bread outreach to be held on Saturday, July 16.
The event will take place at the corner of Great North and Elgin Road, Pomona, from 9am.
Founder of the organisation, Carike Pretorius, said their first concern was the children.
“We would like to bless them with something special this winter and leave something behind to make a difference and bring warmth into their lives. We will all stand together in prayer, handing out bread and soup. You are welcome to attend,” she said.
“We would like to give each child a shoebox filled with goodies, for example a colouring book, crayons, chips, cold drink, water and sweet treats. There are about 150 children and boxes to fill. We need 150 people to fill one box. These children can’t even get to school, meaning their tummies are empty,” she added.
Pretorius is asking businesses to assist in any way. The NPO wishes to fill 150 hampers with a special Under His Covering warm blanket, water bottle and T-shirt.
In addition to that, they ask that the rest of the necessities, such as water, canned food, margarine, sugar, toothpaste, soap, and anything else be donated that can help them fill their most basic needs.
The additional list of necessities that need to be donated include stationery, toiletries, washing powder, non-perishable foods, bread, snacks, water bottles, toys and blankets (old or new).
Pretorius added that all monetary donations would be very helpful.
“Funds are an essential donation that can be put to any productive use, and help us fill in any of the physical essentials that have not yet been donated.”
Pretorius pointed out that they were also in need of the assistance of volunteers who would be able help with the distribution of soup.
She added that a PA system to operate the music and function announcements was also required.
“Show your support in helping us reach our goal by taking care of the most innocent and helpless people in the world, the children.
“During these cold winter months, those left at the mercy of others could use the support from the surrounding community,” said Pretorius.
If you are interested in assisting the organisation in any way towards their soup and bread initiative, and would like to receive the entire list of requirements needed on the day, you may contact Carike Pretorius on: 072 292 4705.
