67 Mandela Day blessing bags for the poor

By Monday, 67 blessing bags had been handed out by Metro Minds

SIXTY-SEVEN people will benefit from receiving blessing bags from Metro Minds on Mandela Day.

Metro Minds, a training centre in Glen Marais, has for the past week been handing out “blessing bags” to the less fortunate.

By Monday morning, on Mandela Day, they had blessed 45 people with the bags, which contained donated clothes and shoes.

One of the beneficiaries was 35-year-old Christopher from Tembisa.

Originally From Mont Fere, Christopher moved in with his sister in Tembisa where they share a shack, after he came to Gauteng to look for work.

“I only have a grade 9 but can read and write. I don’t have a full-time job and only find temporary jobs as a gardener wherever I can,” Christopher said.

“I juggle two jobs: one at a plastic factory on some days and a second one as a domestic worker on my free days,” Paulinah said.

Another beneficiary was 62-year-old Richard who has no family and lives on the street.

“We handed out the last 21 bags on Monday morning and the 67th one to a children’s home,” Lizelle Fourie, who does marketing and design at Metro Minds, told EXPRESS.

Company employees also spent 67 minutes cleaning up the city on the internationally recognised day, which sees many people and companies from around the world participating in charitable efforts for 67 minutes.
