Child Welfare and FAMSA spend day at pre-school

'If we merge as organisations we can do so much more to protect and care for the children of our country'

CHILD Welfare Kempton Park and FAMSA (Families South Africa) spent Mandela Day with children at Step Ahead Pre-school.

For one day only, social workers and employees from both organisations were the learners’ “teachers”: they did their school work with them, played games with them during break and even cooked for them.

“When we arrived we made them oats for breakfast. Then we made them a delicious lunch of pap and chicken stew,” Alice Tandi, Child Welfare Kempton’s acting director, told EXPRESS.

With the help of donations from the community, child welfare also donated some teddy bears and groceries to the créche.

FAMSA donated toys, teddy bears and blankets to keep the little ones warm during sleep time.

After lunch, FAMSA and child welfare put the kids to sleep.

Makha Thusi, senior social worker at FAMSA’s head office in Kempton Park, said the two organisations spent the day at the pre-school in honour of Nelson Mandela’s love for children.

“If we merge as organisations, especially children and family groups such as FAMSA and child welfare, we can do so much more to protect and care for the children of our country,” Thusi concluded.
