Push taps save school R10k

"We were shocked and delighted to see our bill for April coming in at about R5 000."

Sunlight identified Tembisa as a community which was affected by leaking taps and as a result, installed 250 push taps in March 2016.

This added extra relief to the pockets of Tembisa residents.

“We were shocked and delighted to see our bill for April coming in at about R5 000, when we had become accustomed to paying about R15 000. The taps are really different from normal taps as the mechanism doesn’t allow for leaks. We have had about 5 000 learners go through grade 7 since we started in 1996 and now with the R10 000 saved every month, we can develop the other priority areas within the school for the children,” said Mrs Rosaline, the principal at Reagile Primary School in Tembisa.

Water wastage by children has reduced to zero in residences where push taps were installed.
