Youngsters help the elderly

The team worked together to help the needy families with food parcels on Saturday

It is that time of the year again, where communities, businesses and companies work together to bring about social change.

People also celebrate the life and ideals of a great man who changed the course of the World through his love for humanity.

The Life 4 U Foundation spent their 67 minutes for Mandela Day celebrating with the some of the underprivileged, orphanages and widows from Ivory Park and Tembisa.

The team worked together to help the needy families with food parcels on Saturday.

About 60 families received groceries from the Life 4 U Foundation project, which relies on donations.

According to the founder of the project, Mr Simon Molekwa, they want to restore hope and the right to a better life for the hopeless families.

“We want to ensure that everyone around our community is not deprived of human dignity and the right to live a happy, decent life. As a group of youngsters, we managed to distribute well-balanced and packaged food parcels to the identified beneficiaries in the area,” said Mr Molekwa.

Mr Molekwa said they will continue serving needy families for the rest of the month with food gardens and other items.

“As poverty is rife in our communities, we are determined to continue providing some relief to the community because in some instances, you find a person working in a family of eight or 10 people, and when you check, the person is earning small income.

“We always encourage people and community members to not judge those receiving food parcels because they don’t know or understand the background of that person, but rather they should try to come up with the means of helping others,” said Mr Molekwa.

One of the beneficiaries, Ms Jane Mametsa, thanked the Life 4 U Foundation for bringing food to their tables.

“We are grateful to have such dedicated youth in the community, who recognise disadvantaged people,” said Ms Mametsa.

Mr Molekwa also said they would like to thank their sponsor KMC Butchery and the Life 4 U volunteers who helped in making the day a success.
