Taxis collide as morning starts with heavy rain

Kempton was hit with early morning rainy weather, as well as a short burst of hail

TWO taxis crashed into each other on Pretoria Road on Tuesday morning as Kempton woke up to wet rainy conditions.

One of the taxis rear-ended the other one on Pretoria Road, just after the traffic circle at corner Pretoria and Elgin Road, towards the direction of the CBD.

It is unclear as yet how many passengers were injured, but two people were seen sitting down on the pavement next to one of the taxis. One of them, a woman, had blood stains on her jeans.

Motorists are urged to be extra careful on the roads, especially with the bad weather conditions.

Kempton was hit with early morning rainy weather, as well as some hail for a short while just after 6.30am.

EMER-G-MED advises motorists to maintain a safe following distance, especially in wet weather, and to drive slowly.

Yesterday, Netcare 911 tweeted that their paramedics “had their hands full all day” attending to accident scenes. They urged drivers to slow down and obey the rules of the road.

Netcare also posted a video taken by a motorist in Stanger (Kwa-Dukuza) in KZN. The short video shows vehicles struggling to drive in the heavy floods on R102.

The province experienced a cold front over the weekend, which led to heavy rains and flooding on Monday, July 25.
