Local reggae band launches its debut album

The band will be launching its debut album on July 30 at the VIP Bar

AFTER releasing their album on May 27, reggae band, Zionruts Family, is now embarking on a tour and their next stop is Kempton Park.

The band will launch its debut album, Keep on Surviving, on July 30 at the VIP Bar on the corner of Long Street and Monument Road.

The event will start at 8pm.

Zionruts Family is made up of two vocalist’s from Kempton Park West, Solomon “Rutsman Spice” Tokwe (37) and Thenjiwe “Ziondawta” Khumalo (41). There are also three musicians in the band.

“After you published our article in EXPRESS people started asking us when we were going to perform this side, so we decided to bring the music home,” said Tokwe.

The group has shared the stage with great Jamaican artists and popular local Reggae bands such as the Lucky Dube band and say they have learnt a lot over the past few months.

“We would like to see how Kempton Park residents will react to our music because when some people heard our music on the link you posted on SoundCloud, they didn’t believe it was us, because they couldn’t believe that South Africa could produce such quality,” he added.

Their album will be available in music stores in three months’ time but Reggae music lovers will be able to purchase their offering at the launch.

According to Tokwe, Zionruts Family’s single is currently ranked as one of the top five best Reggae songs in a few local and regional music charts.

“People are really relating to our song well. They are receiving it well and it’s becoming my favourite song,” said Tokwe about their single, Keep on Surviving.
