Youth comes together to tackle unemployment
The event hosted 250 unemployed young people from Ivory Park and Tembisa.
As part of the Youth Month celebrations, the Life 4 U Foundation in partnership with the Water Research Commission hosted an unemployed youth workshop at the Tumelo Home in Ivory Park on June 24.
The purpose of the workshop was to encourage youth entrepreneurship among the youth of Ivory Park and Tembisa.
“The country is faced with a huge challenge of unemployment and poverty. Our organisation is focused on entrepreneurship to fight the scourge of youth unemployment in the township. That is why we partnered with the Water Research Commission to come and help our youth,” said the founder of the Life 4 U Foundation, Mr Simon Molekwa.
The event hosted 250 unemployed young people from Ivory Park and Tembisa.
The theme of the workshop was creating jobs while improving water and sanitation.
“We aim to share information and create an understanding of the processes and experiences from the Eastern Cape schools initiative, with the intent of stimulating and enhancing the adoption of the sanitation entrepreneurship concept to the benefit of urban schools. The approach developed provides a platform for the youth of Ivory Park and Tembisa to generate income opportunities using the social franchise model. Two Eastern Cape businesses, Impilo Yabantu and Amanzi Abantu, shared their experiences in this field while engaging in conversation with participating youth on how success can be replicated by the unemployed youth in their respective communities,” said Mr Molekwa.
The Water Research Commission encouraged the youth to exploit the opportunities that exist in the water and sanitation sector because most people don’t like dirty jobs.
Also, the issue of toilet hygiene and water conservation was raised to encourage the youth to participate in.
The Life 4 U Foundation is a youth organisation, determined to bring change to the community of Ivory Park and Tembisa through various programmes that they are running to assist the youth, the elderly and the underprivileged.
“With the help of the community and local businesses, our organisation is growing tremendously and we would like to thank everyone who helps and sponsors this foundation,” said Mr Molekwa.
