Tembisans ready to vote today

Today residents will take to the voting stations to cast their votes in the 2016 Local Government Elections.

Today residents will take to the voting stations to cast their votes in the 2016 Local Government Elections.

Unlike national and provincial elections, voting in a municipal election is only allowed at the voting district in which you are registered to vote.

To check the address of their voting station voters can:

  •  Dial *120*432# and follow the prompts.
  •  SMS your ID number to 32810 (at a cost of R1).
  •  Click the “My Registration Details” button on www.elections.org.za
  •  Call the Electoral Commission Contact Centre on 0800 11 8000 (7am to 9pm weekdays).
  • Voters need to take their green barcoded ID book, smart ID card or a valid temporary ID certificate to the voting station.

When voting tomorrow:

  •  Find your correct voting station for the voting district in which you are registered.
  •  Present your valid identification document to the door controller at the entrance of the voting station.
  •  Check that you are on the voters’ roll at the voters’ roll table where your name will then be crossed off.
  •  Get your ballot papers. An election official will then hand you your ballot papers.
  •  Get your identification documents stamped by an official.
  •  Find an empty voting booth and make your “X” next to the political party of your choice.
  • Cast your vote. An election official stationed at the ballot box will check that there is a stamp at the back of each of your ballots.
  •  After casting your vote you will then be directed to the exit.
