Supporters donates to children in need

On their arrival at the centre, the supporters were seen chanting football songs and showing their excitement to spend time with the children.

As part of celebrating Mandela Day, the Tembisa Branch of Orlando Pirates supporters spent their 67 minutes with the orphaned and vulnerable children at Siyazigabisa Children’s Home.

The supporters visited the children’s home on July 17.

On their arrival at the centre, the supporters were seen chanting football songs and showing their excitement to spend time with the children.

They donated story books, clothing, toys, food parcels and a small amount of cash to the children.

The welfare officers of the Tembisa Branch Orlando Pirates Supporters, Mr Fanie Malatola, encouraged the children to not give up in life and to rather go to school.

“Needy children should not allow their family backgrounds to destine their future. Look for education instead of crime, drugs, and alcohol. We are advising children to not engage on social media or get exposed to things that will distract their focus from reading books,” said Mr Malatola.

Mr Malatola said it is their responsibility as parents to look after the children that are most in need, as it also teaches them to never neglect their families.

“It is said charity begins at home. Community is home. We as the community are showing them love and support. Every day should be Mandela Day,” said Mr Malatola.

The Orlando Pirates supporters spend their 67 minutes feeding the children some of the food they had prepared. They also helped with washing dishes and interacted with the children.

“It is not the first time we visit children’s home in Tembisa. Once a year, we choose a home to donate to. We are doing this because we care,” said Mr Malatola.

Meanwhile, the founder of Siyazigabisa Children’s Home, Ms Gabsile Khoza, has shown her gratitude to the Pirates supporters by dancing and singing with them.

“I feel loved and protected by those coming to support and help keep the children’s home surviving. As much as I was not aware that people recognised what I am doing, I feel honoured,” said Ms Khoza.

She said the children’s home caters for 130 orphans, vulnerable and needy children around Tembisa.
