Help arrives for tornado victims
A Facebook group has been started by a Kempton Park resident to collect materials to rebuilt the destroyed homes
A group, called Help Winnie Mandela Section Tembisa, has been created on Facebook by two Kempton Park residents who wanted to assist families who lost their homes and belongings in the recent tornado in Tembisa.
The strong wind blew off the roofs of about 200 households in Winnie Mandela, leaving an estimated 400 people displaced. Other areas damaged by the storm include 100 shacks and 20 houses in Hospitalview.
Brenda Smit said her domestic worker could not attend work the day after the tornado as she had no dry clothes or a house anymore. “All her belongings were taken in the tornado.”

“Malcolm Taylor and I have created this group to ask people in and around Kempton Park to assist us with unwanted building materials to rebuild their shacks, for example wood, steel roof sheeting, scrap materials, cardboards, big oil tins, food, clothes, blankets and mattresses.
“We received a lot of assistance from a lot people and would like to thank all the people for their assistance, mainly Gateway Church in Glen Marais and the DA members who were there to assist us when we needed their help,” Taylor said.
Residents are welcome to contact Smit on 062-150-2712 or Taylor on 076-701-1292 for more information.
