Kelly Moorosi (19), Joseph Shandlale (22) and Hendri Meintjies (22) beat over 1 000 applicants to qualify for the Siemens Apprenticeship Scheme-an all-expenses-paid 3.5 year training programme in electrical and mechanical engineering in Berlin, Germany.

Two bright youths from Tembisa have beaten over 1 000 applicants to qualify for the Siemens Apprenticeship Scheme, an all-expenses-paid 3,5 year training programme in electrical and mechanical engineering in Berlin, Germany.

Kelly Moorosi (19) and Joseph Shandlale (22) are among the first in Sub-Saharan Africa to qualify for the internship, which started in August 2016.

They will be guaranteed employment at Siemens SA when they they return home.

This once-in-a-lifetime skills development and career opportunity has been presented to three bright South African youths, who excelled in high school but did not have the funds to further their education.

During their apprenticeship, which began in August 2016, the learners will be subjected to placements in numerous Siemens business units to allow them to apply what they have learned at the Werner-von-Siemens Vocational School and at the lab of Siemens Professional Education.

They will also be paid a competitive monthly salary that increases yearly, receive 30 days paid annual leave, and be provided with annual return flights home.

They are also guaranteed employment at Siemens upon their return to SA, says Mr Clifford Klaas, Siemens SA Executive Director: Corporate Affairs, HR and Sustainability.

“The aim of this scheme is not just to up skill the engineers of tomorrow, but to nurture their skills from grassroots level within the company by offering specialised placement, thereby ensuring sustainable growth that is felt on a personal, professional and greater socio-economic level.”
