The passenger's body was extricated from underneath the bakkie with the assistance from Primrose Fire and a First Road towing vehicle

In a horror accident on the N12 on Saturday afternoon, a man was killed when hit by a passing car while pushing a broken down vehicle.

The impact threw the man underneath another passing bakkie, where his body was trapped.

Max Cohen of Emer-G-Med said paramedics were on stand-by at the Sasol garage on North Reef and AG De Witt roads when they were approached by a member of the public to inform them of a serious crash on the N12 before Edenvale.

“It’s believed a vehicle had broken down. The passengers and driver got out in order to push it to the emergency lane but as they got out their vehicle was hit by another car. One passenger was hit by the car and was thrown under a passing bakkie, trapping the passenger beneath the vehicle.

“Unfortunately the passenger had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene.”

While paramedics were on the scene the driver of the car started to complain of chest pain and started developing typical heart attack symptoms. He was stabilised on the scene before being transported to hospital under Advanced Life Support care.
