Roadblock pays off

Tembisa South SAPS conducted a roadblock and they visited Esangweni Taxi rank taxi Rank to spread the messages on their pamphlets.

Tembisa South SAPS and the station’s women’s network held a roadblock next to Leralla Railway Station on August 26.

Captain Neldah Sekgobela said the operation was led by the station commander Colonel Dorah Morebodi.

“The purpose was to search pedestrians and motorists for dangerous weapons, to check for those who were driving motor vehicles without driver’s licences and to check the road worthiness of the vehicles.”

Captain Sekgobela said fines were issued to those in contravention of the National Road Traffic Act.

“As part of Women’s Month, members of the women’s network distributed pamphlets on domestic violence to encourage victims to break their silence when being abused.”

She said people were also advised to visit the station’s victim empowerment centre where everything will be handled with confidentiality.

“Other pamphlets included information on drugs. Alcohol and drugs are seen as contributing factors to crime taking place around the area,” Captain Sekgobela said.

“After conducting the roadblock, they visited Esangweni Taxi Rank to hand out pamphlets.

“Later they visited Vusimusi squatter camp where some of the illegal shebeens were closed,” Captain Sekgobela said.
