A business owner from Ivory Park, Extension 2, was allegedly hijacked and robbed of R 170 000 by three unknown suspects.

The Ivory Park SAPS is appealing to community members to be vigilant whenever they want to make huge deposits at banks.

Residents should ensure that they do not pass their banking information on to anyone.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, a business owner from Ivory Park, Extension 2, was allegedly hijacked and robbed of R 170 000 by three unknown suspects.

The incident took place on Monday morning last week.

“The victim was going to deposit money at a bank in Midrand with a friend,” said W/O Sekgobela.

The suspects approached the victims at the stop sign next to the Eskom offices.

“The suspects hijacked the vehicle at gunpoint and drove off. The money was still inside the vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered by members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) but no money was found. The Ivory Park SAPS is appealing to community members to be vigilant when they want to make large deposits at the bank,” said W/O Sekgobela.

She also urged residents to not tell anyone if they must make a large deposit at the bank.
