The City of Ekurhuleni will soon announce a water restriction tariff and fines to be imposed for those who contravene the water restrictions currently in place, Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, said on Monday afternoon.
This announcement could come as early as this week as the city council has its monthly meeting in Germiston on Thursday.
Gadebe said Ekurhuleni technicians had been closely monitoring water levels at reservoirs across Ekurhuleni and had noted that water levels at the Russel Road reservoir in Germiston were running low.
“As a precautionary measure water supply pressure will be reduced in efforts to conserve the resource. Consumers in Germiston were urged to implement water saving measures as levels in their supplying reservoir had dropped.
The situation in Kempton Park is under control.
“All Ekurhuleni residents and businesses are required to use water sparingly and adhere to the prohibition of irrigation activities between 6am and 6pm. These include the use of hosepipes, sprinklers and irrigation systems, as well as filling of swimming pools,” Gadebe warned.
