EKURHULENI executive mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina, says his administration will spend every Friday in the streets of Ekurhuleni attending to service delivery challenges.
“We are driving a ‘pro-poor’ agenda and we have no choice but to hit the ground running,” he said.
“During campaigning for the elections our people raised a number of issues with us. Among these was the fact that after the election politicians tend to disappear yet they, as communities, face service delivery challenges. We must change that, hence we have decided we will be out there most of the time instead of the boardroom.”
Last week the mayor announced the introduction of Siyaqhuba Friday when he revealed his administration’s 100-day programme. He further announced that to improve the turnaround time to service delivery complaints, the city would be launching an App with GPS navigation so communities could just take a picture of the problem and send it to the call centre for actioning.
As part of Siyaqhuba Friday, the mayor leads his mayoral committee, senior managers and technical staff to communities to address service delivery challenges.
“We are very serious about our service delivery programme, hence the decision to go down to communities.”
The App is already in its trial runs and has shown great results so far,” Masina explains.
“We are calling on our people to freely engage us when we visit them so we have a clear picture of what we are dealing with and how best we can handle that.”
Last Friday the team visited Winnie Mandela, Duduza and Clayville in Tembisa.
This Friday Siyaqhuba Friday moves to Katlehong from 7am until lunch time.
