Wanted suspects caught

The 38-year old suspect was first arrested six years ago for alleged possession of firearms.

The diligence of Ivory Park SAPS detectives ensured that a man who was on the run for almost nine years was rearrested.

The man was wanted on a charge of possession of two firearms and had a warrant of arrest issued against him..

The suspect was due to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on September 28.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the 38-year old suspect was first arrested six years ago for alleged possession of firearms and was granted bail. While out on bail, he was rearrested together with five suspects for a robbery which allegedly took place in Mpumalanga. “He has been on trial in that province since then. He is the second of the most wanted to have been arrested by the Ivory Park detectives in recent weeks. Another suspect who was being sought for a housebreaking and theft case was arrested in Polokwane recently,” said Capt Matimulane.

Capt Matimulane said the 31-year old suspect has been on the run for almost nine years until he was finally located two months ago.

“His trial, for crimes which he is alleged to have committed at Ivory Park, Extension 2 in 2006, and for which he later skipped bail, was due to start in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 30,” added Capt. Matimulane.

The acting station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Colonel Baba Matthews Mpotoane, has welcomed the arrests.

“These arrests should serve as a warning to any fugitive that the Ivory Park police will not rest until the suspects wanted in connection with crimes committed in Ivory Park precinct have answered to the charges levelled against them,” said Col Mpotoane.
