Problems revealed through unscheduled visit

The visit culminated at the SASSA in Tembisa, where the conditions of the office were found to be unsuitable for services to continue.

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Mr Buti Manamela, paid an unannounced visit to Ekurhuleni.

The visits were part of the Frontline Service Delivery Monitoring programme of the department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.

Deputy Minister Manamela was accompanied by the MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Clr Khosi Mabaso, who is responsible for shared services in the Ekurhuleni Municipality.

The visit included the EMS services in Bedfordview, the Labour Centre in Benoni, the youth office and licensing station in Kempton Park.

The visit culminated at the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Tembisa, where the conditions of the SASSA office were found to be unsuitable for services to continue.

Staff did not have name badges and were not easily identified.

The centre is small in size and is unable to offer effective services to the number of people who go to the centre on a daily basis.

These are some of the findings that were identified at the centre.

Recommendations have been made and will be shared with the provincial and local government so that the necessary improvements can be made in the interest of service delivery.
