Rumours of rearrest of hijacker on the run are false

Rumours of the rearrest have been circulating on social media but police have confirmed that this is not true

DESPITE rumours circulating on social media that wanted suspect Joshua Bomba Shongwane had been rearrested by the SAPS, the reports were found to be untrue.

The Tembisan was able to confirm with Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lt Col Lungelo Dlamini that these rumours are indeed false.

This follows the SAPS’ announcement yesterday that a manhunt for Shongwane had been launched after he shot and killed a police officer, before escaping from the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court holding cells.

Shongwe was due to appear for criminal proceedings relating to a series of hijackings which took place in Tembisa, Rabie Ridge and Kagiso four years ago.

He is considered to be highly dangerous. Anyone who may see him must contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or contact the nearest police station. The Tembisa SAPS can also be contacted on 011 926-2970, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.

A reward for information will be issued.
