Brothers arrested for Heritage Day murder

Following a painstakingly thorough investigation, the detectives managed to get enough evidence and the whereabouts of the two brothers who were arrested at their place of work in Midrand on Monday October 10, and two weeks after the murder was committed.

Ivory Park SAPS detectives have arrested two brothers, aged 26 and 24, for the alleged murder on Heritage Day of a Zimbabwean national.

Following a painstaking investigation, the detectives managed to gather enough evidence and determined the whereabouts of the two brothers, who were arrested at their place of work in Midrand on Monday, October 10, two weeks after the murder was committed.

The murder happened after a night of drinking next to Jack to Jack Tavern in Extension 4, Kaalfontein.

“Witnesses at the scene said that the victim, Knowledge Ncube, 27, died after trying to mediate in a fight between one of the brothers and someone named Bafana.

“He was stabbed. It is alleged that one of the arrested men went home to fetch his younger brother and, upon their return, Bafana had already left and that was when Ncube was targeted as he was one of the people in the company of Bafana,” said the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

The two suspects, who had relocated to Mamelodi after the incident, were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to answer to a charge of murder.

At the time of going to print the outcome of the court proceedings were unknown.

Brigadier Mbongeni David Ngcobo, the station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, commended the detectives on a job well done and, most importantly, thanked the community members who came forward to give statements to the police.

“We have repeatedly said that when the community and the police join hands, we should be able to solve any kind of crime that we as law enforcers are confronted with,” Brigadier Ngcobo said.
