Tswelopele man arrested for possession of two firearms

Capt Matimulane said the 29-year old was also found in possession of a video camera and drilling machine.

Police officers from the SAPS Flying Squad arrested a 29-year-old man after he was found in possession of two firearms, a .38 special and a shotgun.

The arrest took place on Tuesday night last week.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the two firearms were reported as stolen in the Olifantsfontein SAPS precinct recently, where a case of theft was opened.

“The officers, acting on information, went to an address where they found a man.

“Upon introducing themselves and following the necessary protocol, the police officers went on to search the premises where they found the two firearms and 29 rounds of live ammunition, for both the pistol and the shotgun.

“Immediately after the successful search at Tswelopele, the officers proceeded to another address in Ivory Park, Extension 2, where they arrested a 24-year old who was found in possession of some of the items that were taken on the same night and time when the firearms were stolen,” said Capt Matimulane.

Capt Matimulane said the 29-year old was also found in possession of a video camera and drilling machine.

The suspects have been detained at the Ivory Park SAPS.

The Ivory Park SAPS station commander, Brigadier Mbongeni David Ngcobo said, “We welcome these arrests and appeal to the community in general to come forward with any information to assist us in fighting crime.”
